Roy J. “Hardrock” Johnson

A no-nonsense manager for the Bisbee Bees, Roy J. “Hardrock” Johnson led the Bisbee Bees for the team’s first five years. A player in the old outlaw Copper League, Johnson was a popular and usually successful manager for the Bees.

After the Arizona-Texas League folded in 1932, Johnson was hired by the Chicago Cubs as a minor league manager and then as a coach for the parent team. In 1944, Johnson served briefly as interim manager for the Cubs.
